However, before we proceed with a job, there are certain criteria the client needs to be aware of before the job begins. Asbestos for use in BC households was banned in 1986.  So any popcorn ceiling built before 86 needs to be tested with a Hazmat report. However, there are instances where asbestos is found in popcorn ceilings well into the 1990’s.  For the safety of yourself and your loved ones, we recommend testing up to the mid 90’s.  It is the sole responsibility of the homeowner to ensure that asbestos is not present in the popcorn ceiling. This is why we have our own house abatement specialist to guide our clients through the process so there are no costly mistakes made.
